Denmark gives up its satellite tournament

After Germany, Denmark has decided not to organise an international fencing competition because of the possible presence of Russian and Belarusian athletes. But unlike the German event, which is on the World Cup calendar, the Danish event does not directly concern the elite. The Danish Fencing Federation announced in a statement its decision to withdraw the Trekanten International, a satellite tournament, scheduled to take place in Copenhagen on 7 and 8 October 2023. “It is with a heavy heart that we take this decision, but we cannot support the return of Russian and Belarusian fencers to the piste under the current circumstances,” explained the president of the Danish federation, Jan Sylvest Jensen. As a reminder, the International Fencing Federation (FIE) decided by vote on Friday 10 March to conditionally reinstate Russian and Belarusian athletes from the beginning of April, the opening of the qualification period for the Paris 2024 Games.
