Delays pile up for Oran 2022

The next edition of the Mediterranean Games, scheduled for 25 June to 5 July 2022 in Oran, Algeria, is under threat of severe weather. The president of the coordination commission of the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games (ICMG), the Frenchman Bernard Amsalem, is worried about the delays in the preparation of the multi-sport event. He expressed this concern at a recent meeting of the executive committee of the body. According to Bernard Amsalem, the delays experienced by the local organising committee are particularly worrying in the areas of transport, technology and competition sites. To make matters worse, communication seems to be very difficult with the Algerian organisers. The ICMG calls for more collaboration with the organising committee and the Algerian authorities. A teleconference between the coordination commission and the organising committee is scheduled for 30 November. It should be followed by an inspection visit to Algeria, announced between 10 and 12 December. The ICMG has formally requested to meet with the political authorities, including the Head of State, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Sports and Youth of Algeria, in order to clarify all the issues related to the organisation of the event. The Oran Mediterranean Games were initially planned for this year, but were postponed to 2022 due to the health crisis.
