The big clean-up continues in Chinese sport. Following in the footsteps of the head of the Chinese delegation to the Beijing 2022 Winter Games, it’s now the turn of the head of the Professional Football League to be caught in the crosshairs of the law. Liu Jun, the head of the company that oversees the Chinese Super League, is under investigation for corruption. According to the General Administration of Sport, he is suspected of “significant legal and disciplinary violations“. The statement issued by the sports authorities does not specify the nature of the allegations. Prior to Liu Jun, several other leading figures in Chinese soccer have been the subject of similar investigations, including former national team coach Li Tie and association president Chen Xuyuan.
