Compulsory vaccination for Lucerne 2021

The International University Sports Federation has announced in a press release that vaccination against COVID-19 will be compulsory to participate in the next edition of the Winter Universiade, scheduled for December 11th-21st 2021 in Lucerne, Switzerland. The decision was taken by FISU and the organising committee to ensure that the 30th edition of the international multi-sport event will go ahead, after discussions with the Swiss sanitary authorities. The members of the 58 delegations that have already confirmed their presence in Lucerne will have to be vaccinated and undergo a PCR test on their arrival in Switzerland. The 2021 Winter Universiade was originally scheduled to take place from January 21-31st, 2021, but has been postponed by 11 months because of the sanitary crisis. It is to be held in central Switzerland and Graubünden, with competitions in Lucerne and the cantons of Uri, Schwyz, Obwalden, Nidwalden and Zug. The programme includes 10 sports distributed over eight venues. Around 1,600 students between 17 and 25 years old are expected to attend from over 540 universities.
