A change is in store for the upcoming World Cup season. For the first time since winter 2009-2010, the calendar will not include a single parallel slalom event. The discipline is in decline. The only individual race scheduled for last season had to be cancelled due to bad weather. As for the team event, contested at the PyeongChang 2018 and Beijing 2022 Winter Games, it has been struck from the program of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Games by decision of the IOC. Another change is the introduction of a new event, the team combined. It will be contested for the first time at the men’s World Cup stage in Kitzbühel, Austria, in January 2024. Each nation will enter two skiers, one for the speed event, the other for the slalom. However, the individual combined event will disappear from the landscape. A feature of the Winter Games since Calgary in 1988, it has not been contested on the World Cup circuit for the last three seasons.
