The International University Sports Federation (FISU) will probably not have too many questions to answer when it comes to awarding the 2027 Summer World University Games. The bid from the province of Chungcheong, South Korea, seems to fit all the boxes. At the top of the list is the uncommon level of public support for a multi-sport event. The team in charge of the bid announced in a newsletter that it had launched a petition this year in favor of hosting the World University Games, with the objective of collecting at least 1 million signatures. It was exceeded in less than a month. A FISU delegation went on a mission to Chungcheong in mid-July. The delegation visited 23 potential sports venues, 19 of which were already in existence, as well as the potential venue for the opening ceremony and several plots of land for the athletes’ village.
