China will do the number

The figure is in. And it’s an impressive one. With ten days to go, China has unveiled its delegation for the 2023 Asian Games, which will take place from 23 September to 8 October in Hangzhou, in the Chinese province of Zhejiang. The delegation will comprise 1,329 people, including 886 athletes. There will be almost equal representation, with 437 female and 449 male athletes. China will be represented in 407 events and 38 disciplines. Average age of the team: 25. The Chinese delegation will include 36 Olympic champions, but a large majority of athletes who have never taken part in the Asian Games before (630). China has dominated the medals table at every Asian Games since 1982. Earlier in the week, Malaysia also announced a record participation in the continental event, which had been postponed for a year due to the health crisis. Malaysia will be represented in Hangzhou by 289 athletes, competing in 22 of the 40 sports on the programme.
