China thumbs up

The series continues. It now extends to the year 2023. The International Canoe Federation (ICF) has announced in a press release that it has cancelled the 2023 World Championships in whitewater slalom and sprint, junior and under 23. They were scheduled to take place in China, in the province of Fujian. The reason was the health crisis and possible travel restrictions imposed by the Chinese authorities. The ICF explains that an inspection visit to the competition site was organised by the Chinese Canoe Federation. It did not ensure that the travel restrictions would be fully lifted next year. A new call for applications has been opened. Potential applicants must apply by 15 July 2022. China has already cancelled or postponed all international sporting events scheduled to take place on its soil in 2022, with the exception of the Beijing Winter Games. It is now starting to do the same for 2023.
