China and Slovenia join the World Cup

Now almost certain to be part of the Olympic programme at the Los Angeles Games in 2028, climbing is beefing up its international calendar. Its world body, the IFSC, has announced two new stops on the World Cup circuit for 2022: the Slovenian city of Koper and the Chinese city of Wujiang. The former, Slovenia’s fifth largest city, has never before hosted a World Cup stage. Wujiang, on the other hand, hosted the World Cup for seven consecutive years between 2013 and 2019, before disappearing from the calendar. The 2022 World Cup will consist of thirteen stages. It will start on 1 April in Moscow and end on 2 October in Wujiang. An additional sport at the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Games, climbing has been proposed by the IOC Executive Board to become an official sport from the Los Angeles 2028 Games.
