Berlin wants to take a stand

Germany is no longer hiding its intention to enter the race for the Summer Games in 2036. The daily Bild reports that the Berlin Senate is currently pushing for the capital to actively prepare a bid for an Olympic edition that will coincide with the 100th anniversary of the Berlin Games in 1936. “We see this as a great opportunity for Berlin, we want to take advantage of it, suggests a statement from one of Germany’s main political parties, quoted by Bild. After the Games, renovated and modernized sports facilities would be available for different sports in Berlin.” At this stage, the intention is still very political. But it follows the decision taken at the end of last year by the German Olympic Committee (DOSB) to conduct a feasibility study for an Olympic bid. The authority still refuses to choose between winter and summer and, in case of a summer project, between the editions 2036 and 2040. But some political leaders in Berlin have already made their choice.
