World Athletics has wasted no time. Just ten days after withdrawing Croatia’s bid to host the 2024 World Cross Country Championships, due to excessive delays in preparations, the athletics body has already announced a replacement host. The event will take place in Belgrade, Serbia. It will be held on March 30, 2024. The Serbian capital hosted the World Indoor Athletics Championships in 2022. It will therefore host a second World Series competition in two years. Next year, the World Cross Country Championships will be held in the heart of Belgrade, in the Friendship Park near the Danube, a site already chosen for the discipline’s European Championships in 2013. At the same meeting, the World Athletics Board also approved the dates for the 2026 World Junior Championships (U20) in Eugene, Oregon. They will take place from August 4 to 9. Finally, the body has validated the dates of the Road World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark, also in 2026. The event will be held at the very end of the season, from September 19 to 20.
