Beijing Marathon open to Chinese residents only

The 2022 Beijing Winter Games will not be the only event reserved for Chinese residents. The organising committee of the Beijing Marathon confirmed on Sunday, October 3rd, that the event could indeed take place this year, after the 2020 edition was cancelled for sanitary reasons. However, the race will not be open to non-resident foreigners in China. It will be held on October 31st, 2021. Around 30,000 participants will be expected at the start in Tiananmen Square. The finish line will be located in the Olympic Forest Park. Only permanent Beijing residents aged 20 and over can participate this year. They will have to show that they have been living in the capital for at least 21 days prior to the competition date, and register their health status online every day during the three weeks. As an added bonus, they will have to present a green health code on their sanitary application, a negative PCR test that is 72 hours old or less, plus a vaccination certificate before departure. Several elite Chinese athletes who are not Beijing residents will be invited, but they will have to live in a sanitary bubble until the end of the competition.
