Bach / Suga

Summit meeting, on Wednesday, July 14th, between Thomas Bach and Yoshihide Suga. The IOC President and the Japanese Prime Minister met for the first time only nine days before the opening of the Tokyo Games, in the presence of the organizing committee’s president, Seiko Hashimoto. According to the official report of their exchanges, the two men mostly compared and exchanged figures. It appears that 85% of the athletes and officials who will live in the Olympic Village, and nearly 100% of the IOC members and staff, are either vaccinated or immunized against COVID-19. Among the media, the vaccination rate is lower, but still remains between 70 and 80 per cent. Seiko Hashimoto took the opportunity to inform the IOC that more than 8,000 people involved in the Games came to Japan between July 1st and 13th. All were subjected to screening rules set up by the organizing committee. As a result: three positive cases were recorded on arrival in Japan. The three people affected were immediately isolated and other contact cases subjected to a quarantine.
