Austria wins Euro 2024

A great success for Austria. Meeting last week in Munich on the sidelines of the European multisport championships, the executive board of the European Table Tennis Union (ETTU) awarded the city of Innsbruck the organisation of the 2024 European Championships. They will take place from 15 to 20 October, just over two months after the Paris 2024 Games. The competition will be led by Austrian table tennis player Stefan Fegerl, European doubles and team champion in 2015, who has been appointed sports director within the organising committee. Austria has not hosted the European Table Tennis Championships since the 2013 edition in Schwechat. In Munich last week, the ETTU executive board met without three of its members, all of whom have been suspended due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine: the president of the body, Russian Igor Levitin, the Belarusian Vladimir Samsonov, former world number one in singles, and the Russian player Polina Mikhailova. The ETTU is currently chaired by the Portuguese Pedro Miguel Moura, who was invited to act as interim president after Igor Levitin’s suspension.
