Australia hits the jackpot

Australia has won a major prize. The International Triathlon Federation (World Triathlon) has announced that it has awarded the city of Townsville, located in Queensland, the organisation of the World Multisport Championships in 2024. The event will last about ten days. It will bring together the World Duathlon, Long Distance Triathlon, Long Distance Aquabike, Aquathlon, Triathlon Cross and Duathlon Cross. Competitors can compete in several different events. They are even offered the opportunity to compete for the title of Multisport Legend, provided they have competed in at least four races on the programme. Dates for the World Multisport Championships in Townsville will be announced in the near future. The World Multisport Triathlon Championships were first held in 2017 in Penticton, Canada. The next two editions were held in Fyn, Denmark in 2018 and Pontevedra, Spain in 2019. The COVID-19 pandemic then took the competition off the calendar for 2020. It was reinstated last year, but in several separate venues (Almere, El Anillo and Aviles). In 2022, the Worlds are scheduled to be held in Romania and Slovakia. They will return to their original format next year, with all the races taking place over 10 days in Ibiza, Spain.
