Athletes’ health under discussion

The International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) is looking at the health of its athletes. Its executive board has decided to launch a wide-ranging consultation to try to assess the health and safety of competitors. At the end of the process, new measures will be adopted to better protect them and ensure fair competition. The measures adopted will be implemented in 2024. They could include new age limits, an issue that will be discussed at the next IFSC General Assembly in Singapore. They could lead to the suspension of an athlete’s licence. In parallel, the IFSC will offer its national federations, officials and athletes a series of educational modules. These will detail the medical examinations that the IFSC Medical and Anti-Doping Commission will adopt for the issuance of a licence.
