An Olympic champion among the rioters of the Capitol

Dirty business. Former US swimmer Klete Keller, a 2004 Athens and 2008 Beijing Olympics relay gold medalist, was reportedly identified as one of Donald Trump’s supporters when the Capitol stormed last week in Washington. According to the specialist website SwimSwam, Klete Keller was recognised among a group of a dozen people. He was dressed in an American Olympic team jacket. The American swimming federation (USA Swimming) has not confirmed the information. And the former swimmer could not be reached, despite repeated attempts by the media. But several close sources say they recognised him on one of the videos of the assault, recorded by Townhall news agency. Until recently, Klete Keller worked for a real estate agency in Colorado, but was reportedly fired. The agency has deleted his name and CV from its website. According to the New York Times, the now 38-year-old ex-swimmer has deleted all of his social media accounts. Quadruple Olympic medalist (Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004), Klete Keller had passed into posterity for having led the 4×200 m relay to victory at the Athens Games, beating the Australian Ian Thorpe by 13 hundredths in the last course.
