American Volleyball Player stricken by COVID

Taylor Crabb

On the eve of the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Games, the Olympic beach volleyball tournament has already lost two competitors. After Czech Ondrej Perusic, whose withdrawal because of COVID-19 was confirmed by his delegation, an American player has reportedly also been tested positive: Taylor Crabb, 29 years old, who teams up with Jake Gibb in the competition. The information was revealed by two Californian media, but it was not commented on by the American delegation at the Tokyo Games. USA Volleyball, the American federation, confirmed the existence of a COVID case among its representatives at the Tokyo Games, without revealing its identity. Taylor Crabb has reportedly been tested positive in Tokyo, during the last weekend. His first match is scheduled for Sunday, July 25th, so it seems almost certain that the American will have to give up playing in the tournament. USA Volleyball is currently working on finding a replacement for him, as allowed by the rules in case of withdrawal for health reasons.
