All Americans are vaccinated

Team USA

With just two weeks to go before the start of the Beijing 2022 Winter Games (4 to 20 February), all the athletes in the US delegation have completed their vaccinations. The announcement was made by Team USA’s chief medical officer, Jonathan Finnoff. He explained to the Associated Press that the anti-COVID measures adopted by the Chinese, including the 21-day quarantine requirement for unvaccinated accredited athletes, had finally convinced the last remaining vaccine holdouts. Unlike the Tokyo 2020 Games, where about 100 of the 600 members of Team USA were not vaccinated, the 200 or so American athletes selected for the Winter Games will all be vaccinated when they arrive in Beijing. The US Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) announced in September that all potentially eligible athletes would have to be fully vaccinated by December 1, 2021, unless they receive a medical exemption. Jonathan Finnoff said he has not received any requests for exemptions, either from the Olympic ranks or from potential future Paralympic selections.
