Albert of Monaco becomes honorary president

A new title for Albert II of Monaco. The sovereign of the principality, one of the oldest members of the IOC, has just been appointed honorary president of the International Motor Sports Union (IUM). In itself, nothing very unexpected, as the international body has established its headquarters in Monaco. But Prince Albert will not be satisfied with a purely honorary role. The IUM explained it on Monday, November 1, during its annual congress: the former bobsleigh pilot, known for his long-standing commitment to saving the planet, will accompany the IUM in its project to launch its first series of electric boat races (E1) in 2023. Commented the president of the body, the Italian Raffaele Chiulli, also president of GAISF: “This is an extraordinary moment for the E1 and the IUM. We are currently at the forefront in terms of transitioning to new technologies for boat motorization. It is gratifying to know that the team behind the transition our planet needs will grow. We are joined in this effort by many important partners. And we can count on the commitment of HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco.” The principality’s sovereign is currently in Glasgow to attend COP 26.
