African Games under threat

Threat to the next edition of the Africa Games, scheduled from 4 to 19 August 2023 in Accra, Ghana. Meeting on Thursday 20 October at an extraordinary congress in Seoul, on the sidelines of the ANOC General Assembly, the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) confirmed that it would not be a stakeholder in the multi-sport event, which has been under the aegis of the African Union since its creation. With less than a year to go, ANOCA’s position could call into question the very organisation of the 2023 All-Africa Games, as they would be deprived of delegates and technical officials from the continental Olympic body. A meeting is scheduled to take place next month at the African Union to try to resolve the conflict, which is open to dispute over ANOCA’s rights and prerogatives.
