A World Cup in two stages

The men’s game has never been an Olympic sport, but it has been given a World Cup. The International Baseball and Softball Federation (WBSC) announced in a press release that the next edition of the Men’s Softball World Cup, the 18th in history, will be held in the Canadian city of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. Prime Ministers Park, which was renovated for the 2018 Men’s World Junior Softball Championship, will be used to host one of the three qualifying groups next year, before hosting the final in 2025. In its new format, the Men’s World Cup is now held in two stages, with an 18-team preliminary round, divided into three groups of six, followed by an eight-nation final the following year.
