A working group on the risk of heatwaves

Will the heat wave threaten the Paris 2024 Games? With two years to go before the event, the answer is a prediction, but the OCOG is taking it very seriously. Etienne Thobois, the director general, said on Wednesday at the end of the fifth visit of the IOC coordination commission that a specific working group had been created within the organising committee. It will rely on the expertise of the international federations. “We learned a lot in Tokyo about this subject,” explained Etienne Thobois at a press conference. “Today, it is clear that heat is a potential subject that we must address for Paris 2024. We are going to look into certain aspects, such as thermal comfort and air conditioning on certain sites. We take this very seriously because it affects the quality of the competition, the comfort of the athletes and the safety of the spectators.
