A woman as general manager for the Women’s World Cup in 2025

Preparations for the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup in England are gathering pace. World Rugby has announced a new appointment to the organising committee. Like the first one, it is a woman. After Gill Whitehead, who was appointed independent chair of the board earlier this year, Sarah Massey (pictured above) has been recruited to fill the key position of chief executive. The Briton has a strong background in sport and events. Her previous experience includes seven years at the International Hockey Federation (IHF) as Director of Events, Marketing and Strategy and then at the International Tennis Federation (ITF), where she led the business strategy planning and development of the Advantage All equality strategy. Most recently, Sarah Massey was the Chief Executive of the Organising Committee for the World Outdoor Athletics Championships in Eugene in July 2022. She will join the organising committee next month at a stage of preparation when the city and venue selection process, ticketing and the finalisation of the national and international legacy strategy will be defined.
