A wide open door for electronic games

Electronic sports continue to gain ground in the Olympic movement. This is evidenced by the decision of the Council of the World Baseball and Softball Confederation (WBSC) to now include eSports as an official discipline. An inclusion that paves the way for the forthcoming organisation of international baseball and softball competitions in electronic mode under the aegis of the WBSC. The international body explains that it adopted a resolution to this effect, and informed all of its member national federations. It must now be submitted for approval to the next WBSC congress, scheduled for 2022. In the meantime, the Council of the instance will take the lead by already preparing the governance rules for e-baseball and e-softball competitions, while planning the launch next year of the first E-Game of the WBSC.
