A tool for understanding Olympic qualification

World Athletics is getting into the educational game. And not in vain. With less than 300 days to go until the opening of the Paris 2024 Games, the world governing body for athletics has announced the launch of a new online tool designed to help athletes, as well as the media and the public, to understand and follow the Olympic qualification process. Called “Road to Paris 2024“, it allows users to search by discipline, country and qualification status, while providing a real-time view of each event. As a reminder, the qualification period ends on 5 May 2024 for the marathon and on 30 June for all the other events. As for the Tokyo 2020 Games and the World Championships in Eugene in 2022 and Budapest in 2023, the qualification system will be split in two: 50% of the athletes will qualify via the minima, while the other half will earn their place via the world rankings. Note: the new tool developed by World Athletics gives an overview of the athletes in a qualifying position, but does not show which athletes have actually been selected by their National Olympic Committee.
