A rival for Vladimir Lisin

After Umar Kremlev in boxing (IBA, formerly AIBA), another Russian president of an international sports body will have to compete to retain power. The InsidetheGames website reports that Italian Luciano Rossi (pictured above) has chosen to run against the outgoing president, Russian Vladimir Lisin, in the upcoming election for the presidency of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF). The election is scheduled for November 30 in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. The deadline to present a candidacy was set for August 30. Luciano Rossi had been beaten by only 4 votes by Vladmir Lisin, considered one of the richest men in Russia, in the last ISSF election in 2018. But the Italian wants to try his luck again. The geopolitical context could serve his interests, as Vladimir Lisin remains the only Russian, along with Umar Kremlev, to preside over an international body in an Olympic sport (Alisher Usmanov, another oligarch, was forced to temporarily step down as president of the International Fencing Federation). Last June, a dozen ISSF member countries, including Canada, Germany, Great Britain, Italy and the United States, officially asked Vladimir Lisin in a letter to give up the presidential office. But the Russian is still in place.
