A reduced relay for the Paralympic flame

Beijing 2022

Unsurprising timing. The Chinese organisers took advantage of the symbolic date of D – 100 days before the opening of the Beijing Paralympic Games (4 to 13 March), on Wednesday 24 November, to unveil the details of the torch’s route. Like the Olympic version, it will be reduced to a very small format, only three days, from 2 to 4 March 2022. The torch will be carried by around 600 torchbearers, concentrated in the three clusters of competition sites, in Beijing, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou. Its slogan: “Health, joy and energy”. The organisers also explained that the volunteers programme had received applications from more than 2,400 disabled Chinese nationals. However, due to a very low recruitment rate, only 19 of them were selected to participate in the Paralympic Games as volunteers.
