A poster campaign in the streets of Kinshasa

With less than 11 months to go before the opening of the Games, preparations for the Games of La Francophonie 2022 (August 19th to 28th) have begun in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The national committee of the IX Games of La Francophonie launched last week a vast communication campaign in the capital, Kinshasa, host city of the sporting and cultural event. It is an old-fashioned campaign, based on the deployment of giant billboards in the streets of the city, from N’djili airport to the Gombe business centre. It is also relayed by several audiovisual media, including the Congolese national radio and television station (RTNC). The construction or renovation of the sports facilities is significantly behind schedule, but the organisers are reassuring. They mention “a delay in the disbursement of funds which could nevertheless take place in the near future to complete the work”. Didier Tshiyoyo, the High Representative of the Head of State for the Games of La Francophonie, commented: “The largest French-speaking country in the world, the DRC, cannot fail to organise the Games of La Francophonie. They will indeed take place in Kinshasa as reaffirmed by President Tshisekedi”. The Games of La Francophonie were initially scheduled for 2021, but were rescheduled because of the sanitary crisis and the postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Games.
