A new step towards virtual sport

It’s no surprise that World Triathlon is continuing to make inroads into the world of e-sports. After teaming up with the Super League Triathlon to create an international competition series, the Arena Games Triathlon powered by Zwift, the sport’s governing body has announced in a press release the names of the three cities that will host the stages of the circuit in 2022. The virtual triathletes will meet on 9 April in Munich, then on 23 April in London. The best of the best will then travel to Singapore for the Arena Games Triathlon Grand Final on 7 May. The first edition of this new kind of competition took place last year in two stages, with a first stop in Rotterdam, followed by a second in London. At each of the three competitions on the circuit, athletes will be able to earn points towards the world ranking. At the end of the series, the top-ranked athletes will be awarded the first ever world championship titles in electronic triathlon. Invented in the midst of a health crisis, the Arena Games Triathlon promises to be “the future of indoor triathlon”, according to the world governing body of the discipline.
