The International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) is breaking new ground. It has announced a new competition format for the next World Games, scheduled for 7-17 August 2025 in the Chinese city of Chengdu. For the first time, three speed events will be on the programme, for both men and women. In addition to the individual event and a four-lane team competition, introduced at the Jakarta-Palembang 2018 Asian Games and present at this year’s Asian Games in Hangzhou, an individual four-lane event will be contested in Chengdu. The 2025 World Games will therefore be awarding medals in six events, with a total of 36 female and 36 male athletes taking part. Sport climbing has been included in the World Games since the 2005 edition, organised in Duisburg, Germany.
