A Frenchman at the helm of virtual sports

The trend is continuing. The IOC has announced the recruitment of a head of virtual sports, a new position created within the sports department as part of recommendation 9 of the Olympic Agenda 2020+5. The Lausanne-based body has chosen a Frenchman, Vincent Pereira (photo above). A former global head of digital at Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO), the football and golf enthusiast has more than ten years’ experience in digital activities and social networks. He has managed social media accounts for large companies such as Microsoft France and Auchan Retail International. Vincent Pereira has also led digital strategies and activations for many clients while working for the agency LaFourmi/Solive. The IOC’s new Head of Virtual Sports is multilingual (he speaks French, English, Spanish and Portuguese) and will be responsible for coordinating the planning and delivery of the Olympic Virtual Series, which will be launched in 2021, with the next edition scheduled for this year. He will take up his post on 1 March 2022.
