A first trophy for young players

FIBA breaks new ground. Basketball’s world governing body has announced the launch of a new individual trophy for the Men’s World Cup (August 25 to September 10), the first ever to be played in three countries – the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia. The “Wanda Rising Star Award” will be presented on the evening of the final to the most promising player of the tournament. To be eligible, players must have been born in 2002 or later, and have played a minimum of four matches in the competition. Candidates will be chosen on the basis of their individual performances and their impact on the performance of their respective teams. A list of nominees will be announced on September 4, before the start of the finals. The final choice will be made by a vote of media representatives and a panel of FIBA experts.
