The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) celebrated World Table Tennis Day in a big way on Sunday 23 April. It was organised for the first time on this spring date, which coincides with the anniversary of the birth of Ivor Montagu, the founder and first president of the international body. To mark the occasion, national federations, organisations, clubs and ping enthusiasts from around the world offered events, tournaments, exhibitions, challenges and open days. In total, more than 400 initiatives were registered in over 100 locations around the world. Topping the list was an exhibition of local young players and some of the world’s best table tennis players in Macau, on the sidelines of the WTT Tour tournament. It was held outside the ruins of St Paul’s, and was attended by ITTF President Petra Sörling of Sweden, Vice President Liu Guoliang of China and ITTF Group CEO Steve Dainton (pictured above).
