A container of boats en route to Lagos

The International Canoe Federation (ICF) is looking to Africa. It has announced that it has sent a full container of equipment to Nigeria as part of its global development program in partnership with the Confederation of African Canoeing (CAC). No less than 17 boats, including six K2 and six C2, two C1, one K1 and two surfskis specially adapted for para-canoe athletes, are expected to arrive in Lagos next month. The Nigerian federation, for its part, has purchased 100 paddles for its athletes. The equipment will be used for the Admiral Cup, a competition scheduled to take place in Nigeria’s capital from May 15 to 19 in the 200-, 500- and 1,000-metre canoe and kayak events. Nigeria is considered one of the fastest growing canoeing and kayaking nations on the African continent. The country sent its first athlete in the slalom event at the 2012 London Olympics and then in the sprint event at the 2020 Tokyo Games (pictured above).
