A Chinese declares himself

They could be two. At least two. According to InsidetheGames, China’s Zhou Jinqiang (pictured above, center), the current president of the China Weightlifting Federation, has applied for the presidency of the International Disciplinary Body (IWF) on time. He joins American Ursula Papandrea, who declared her candidacy earlier this month. The elections for the presidency of the International Weightlifting Federation are due to take place in March 2021. Delegates will be invited to nominate a successor to Hungarian Tamas Ajan, who was forced to resign last April after revelations of a “culture of doping and corruption”within the IWF. Zhou Jinqiang, 56, previously served as IWF vice-president, before stepping down in 2017. The Chinese leader has also served on the boards of two other international sports bodies, the IJF (judo) and the UWW (wrestling). The deadline to apply for the presidency of the IWF was Monday, January 25 at midnight.
