The initiative is unprecedented. On the occasion of Women’s World Cup next edition, initially planned for this year, but postponed to 2022, World Rugby will have a “charity” partner. Its name: ChildFund. This global development alliance will be the lead charity partner for Women’s World Rugby competition, held from October 8th to November 12th, 2022, in Auckland and Whangārei, New Zealand. Under the terms of the partnership, rugby fans will have the opportunity to make a donation when purchasing tickets to the 2022 Women’s World Cup matches. The funds raised will support the expansion of rugby development programs in Oceania. Such an approach had already been initiated by World Rugby during the men’s World Cup in Japan, in 2019. But it is unprecedented for a women’s World Cup. In Japan, the pledges had reached 2 million pounds. They helped support ChildFund programs and emergency relief after Typhoon Hagibis.
