A call for tenders for air and water

Astonishing. On Tuesday 26 October, FIFA officially launched an invitation to tender of a kind never before seen in the international sports movement. It concerns the television rights to its major events in 2022 and 2032 on planes and boats. The case is very serious. According to the body’s statement, “the tender process will allow FIFA to select the media companies best placed to secure the required broadcasting commitments and achieve FIFA’s objectives of providing a high-quality viewing experience to all supporters travelling by boat or plane.” The tender concerns the 2022 Men’s World Cup in Qatar, the Women’s World Cup the following year in Australia and New Zealand – the first 32-team Women’s World Cup – as well as the FIFA-stamped world events in beach soccer and the youth categories. Candidates must submit a file by 16 November 2021 at the latest.
