A Brazilian joins the Council

The International Boxing Federation (IBA, formerly AIBA) has completed its governance. The body chaired by the Russian Umar Kremlev announced the election of the Brazilian Abner Teixeira (photo above) as vice-president of the Athletes’ Commission. He will assist the Indian Lovlina Borgohain, already chosen by her peers to chair the commission. Under the new IBA constitution, both boxers will sit on the IBA board. Abner Teixeira, 25, was a heavyweight bronze medallist at the Tokyo 2020 Games. He was elected by the other members of the Athletes’ Commission, who met this week in virtual mode for the first time since their election. The athlete members of the commission were chosen at the last World Championships, first for men and then for women. Their mandate is to last until the World Boxing Championships in 2025.
