2024 will be the year of the Americas

The number of its national member federations continues to decline, but the IBA is already looking ahead to 2024. Visiting Cali, Colombia, for the American Boxing Confederation (AMBC) Congress, the body’s Russian president, Umar Kremlev, announced that 2024 would be the year of the Americas for the IBA. He proposed that the continent host an Americas Cup in October 2024, with a million-dollar prize at stake. Another project: the organization in America of the World Boxing Tour, IBA Champions’ Night and the World Championships. Host cities and countries have yet to be found. Finally, Umar Kremlev explained that the bonuses distributed to athletes during competitions – the cornerstone of the body’s development programs – would not only go into the boxers’ pockets. While they will receive the lion’s share (70%), 20% will go to the national federation and 10% to the coach.
